The Yardfarmers Trailer - Sustainable Urban Farming

图片
Yard farmers, which was means people grow food at their backyard or green land. It was introduced  by Erik Assadourian, he is a senior fellow at the Worldwatch Institute and a sustainability researcher and writer, in his book, he stated six young Americans  grow food in their parents' yards or other neighbourhood greenspaces. It's a kind of sustainability and food systems,  which may help to bring urban farming and backyard farming out from the traditional farming system. The yard farming movement  also could have a wide range of benefits to individuals, families, and communities, as well as the nation as a whole, as they not only grow food at their own back yard, but also neighbourhood's back yard, that's why they could connect this society. Of course, the biggest obvious benefit would help more local food production and the transition away from growing the most useless crop of grass in yards, and it  toward a more sustainable model of homegrown organic foo...

Urban Heat Island With Urbanization Problem

图片
As the urban population continues to grow, the city continued to spread to the suburbs, that not only leads to inequality urban development but also results in a large number of agricultural land and green land is occupied by urban land. The modern cement city has brought many negative ecological issues, such as urban heat island. Urbanization has been influential in shaping cities, but has been identified as a critical source of environmental burden. The environment can be compromised very easily by abiotic components such as concrete, asphalt, and other building materials. Urban heat island has always been a worldwide environmental problem over the years. The main reason is a lack of evapotranspiration in urban areas where vegetation and exposed soil are less; sun’s energy cannot be consumed in time because much of them are absorbed by pavement and building materials; in addition, greenhouse gases from vehicles, factories and households leading to higher surface temperatures (Figur...

Green Infrastructure

图片
Green infrastructure refers to an interconnected network of natural features (vegetation, parks, wetlands, etc.) that provide beneficial “ecosystem services” for human populations. The benefits can include functions such as pollution removal, carbon sequestration and groundwater recharge. Low impact development and green infrastructure are often used interchangeably because the terms overlap, but it should be noted that LID focuses specifically on water management issues, while green infrastructure’s scope can be broader. Green infrastructure is often used to refer to networks of parks and open lands that preserve habitats and ecosystem functions (usually created or protected by managing land uses), but the term can also encompass small-scale natural features such as trees planted along a city sidewalk. While green infrastructure is often used for water management purposes, it can also be used to tackle other issues such as air pollution, urban heat island effects, wildlife conservati...

Smart Cities

图片
A smart city is an urban development vision to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) and Internet of things (IoT) technology in a secure fashion to manage a city's assets. These assets include local departments' information systems, schools, libraries, transportation systems, hospitals, power plants, water supply networks, waste management, law enforcement, and other community services. Information and communication technology (ICT) is used to enhance quality, performance and interactivity of urban services, to reduce costs and resource consumption and to improve contact between citizens and government. It has been suggested that a smart city (also community, business cluster , urban agglomeration or region) uses information technologies to: 1    Make more efficient use of physical infrastructure (roads, built environment and other physical assets) through artificial intelligence and data analytics to support a strong and healthy economic, social...
